This is an award scheme originally open to Cadet based organisations but extended to all uniformed youth organisations in London a few years ago including Scouting.
The successful recipients generally would be of exemplary standard, ideally have contributed to the success of their section, possibly be already registered on the DofE programme and with outside interests in the community or in sports.
For the first time in 2023 the District nominated 5 young adult Leaders for the award and each one was successful. In fact, there were just 5 Scout Districts out of the 34 in London who made nominations. In Bexley Borough there were only 13 recipients of the award in total, including our 5. They received their Certificates from the Bexley Representative Deputy Lieutenant at a ceremony hosted by the Mayor of Bexley.
In 2024 and 2025 Bexley District was also successful with 5 nominations each year.
Our Award holders are also recorded on the Roll of Honour page.
The age range considered for these awards is generally 14-21, which obviously includes Explorer Scouts and young adult Leaders. All nominations should reflect the individual’s total contribution to Scouting, as well as all their achievements, and this can be both in and out of Scouting.
We are looking for the most ideal candidate from each Group/Unit of exemplary standard, possibly working towards their DofE and/or King’s Scout Award, with outside interests in the community or in sports as a participant.More information, including a nomination form, will be made available to Group/Units usually in early November each year as the Awards must be in to the Cadet Awards Office by 31st January the following year.
Information about this award, including an application form, is normally available in December each year and sent out to GLVs and Explorer Team Leaders.
